(01) Our standard
Honesty in politics, integrity in journalism.
Citizens can only decide in their own interest with accurate information. We want officials and news outlets held to one simple standard: prove it.
Launching soon.
(02) The problem
Half the country is given one set of facts. The other half gets a different set.
Misinformation, propaganda, and biased news make it hard for ordinary people to know what is really going on. When people cannot trust their information, they cannot decide in their own interest, and self-government stops working.
(03) What we're asking for
A standard of truth for the people who inform us.
For elected officials
01
Officials answer for what they say
Elected officials are held accountable for knowingly false claims made from their official accounts, and must correct the record quickly and clearly.
For news outlets
02
News that says what it is
Outlets that claim to report news meet a standard of truth. Opinion, entertainment and satire are labeled as exactly that.
For both
03
Prove it.
No accusation or claim from the people and outlets above without evidence to back it up.
(04) Our premise
Nobody needs to tell you what to think. You need facts.
Democracy demands the truth.
People look out for themselves and their families first, and once they feel secure they look out for their communities too. Give everyone the same accurate information, and most of us will recognize what is best for the people around us.
A democracy works because many groups, each looking out for their own, have to find what they can agree on. It breaks down when they can no longer agree on what is true.
Fix that, and people can do the rest.
(05) Take action
Three ways to help, none of them cost anything.
Step 1 — Contact your representatives
Ask them to back the standard.
Tell the people who represent you that officials and news outlets should have to prove what they say.
Step 2 — Join the movement
Add your name.
Be counted. We will email you when the movement launches, and only then.
Step 3 — Pass it on
Send this to one person.
This only works if it spreads. Send it by text or email to someone who would want to see it.
